Meteor Shower™ — Rising Star

One of those exciting new variety introductions has attracted a lot of attention this summer. If you visited our Display Gardens, you probably noticed a stunning new Verbena bonariensis — Meteor Shower.

Amber Koch
John Antonelli, Regional Sales Rep for the Southwest

“This plant attracted a lot of interest, for good reason,” says John Antonelli, Regional Sales Representative for the Southwest U.S. “Meteor Shower is great because unlike many other Verbena bonariensis, it stays compact at 20 to 30 inches tall. Plus, it flowers its head off!”

Antonelli points out that Meteor Shower is heat tolerant, with some cold tolerance too. “It’s fabulous in the landscape, but also short enough that it can work well in upright containers,” he notes. “And it has staying power — the Kansas State trials were flooded, but this plant was the only variety still in flower.”

Because of its height, Antonelli recommends growing in the larger Royale™ containers. “This gives the plant a better bench presence,” he explains. “Grow it at 65 to 70° F. It will be great as a centerpiece in a combination or planted like we did in blocks of three in the landscape.”
